Into the Labyrinth

Post by Scondoro on Tue Jul 08, 2014 3:31 pm

The artefact recovered from Pri'Magnus has been identified as a Tesseract Labyrinth. The ramifications of such a discovery are numerous, particularly regarding the fact that we have much evidence to suggest that Lord Sandro Michael is trapped inside.

_______________________________________________________________________

After the significant Necron threat was apparent on O'Magnus, Watch Captain Ursa Titarus sent for the assistance of a sub-sect of the Deathwatch of the Jericho Reach, known as the Dead Cabal. The Dead Cabal specializes in the study of the enigmatic Dark Pattern, which, although it has many other significant theories surrounding it, does include a suspicion that the Necron are responsible for it. This makes the members of the Dead Cabal, or their "Vigilants", quite knowledgeable regarding Necron organization, modern history, and technology. Now, the Dead Cabal is not an extensive organization--as a matter of fact, its ranks number but 3 Space Marines and an Inquisitor--so the resources they provide, be it information, technology, or even the opportunities of service, are rare and valuable indeed.

Of the Vigilants, one particular Forge Master has in fact worked with and studied a Tesseract Labyrinth, and has expressed great interest in Lord Michael's plight. The Forge Master Xerill, of the Iron Hands, has offered his knowledge and research to aide in the recovery of Lord Michael. Yes, that's right; Lord Michael is apparently still recoverable, assuming he's survived the Labyrinth itself.

You see, Xerill has spent significant time experimenting with the capabilities and utility of a Tesseract Labyrinth that's been at the Dead Station for decades. After discovering how to activate the xenos device, and eventually coming to be able to operate its functions with reliable results--specifically, open its entrance gate and draw in a designated target--he began to test its capabilities further. Most notably, he discovered that he could "flash" in a simple target object, such as a plate of plasteel: The plate would leave our reality and enter the Labyrinth, and then, by leaving its targeting aperture open for brief moment longer, he could recall it back. This flash would literally happen within a second, but the results were undeniable. He began to test on more complex targets: an auspex, a lasgun, a chainsword, and even a full suit of Mk7 armour. They would all return, save any loose pieces that he assumed might've fallen off the whole of the object while in transit.

Using this flashing technique, he began to stretch the time between the departure and the recall, even going so far as to close the aperture between the two actions. Effectively, he was absorbing objects into the Tesseract Labyrinth for hours at a time, and then drawing them back out. The longest amount of time he had kept an object in the Labyrinth was a year, which was a simple chrono.

_______________________________________________________________________

Kill-team Alpha will be travelling to the Dead Station, located in the Outer Reaches of the Jericho Reach. You will be meeting with Xerill, and any other Vigilants who may be there at the time. Using the research and discoveries of Forge Master Xerill, it will be the kill-team's mission to enter the Tesseract Labyrinth, find Lord Michael, and extract him back through the rendezvous point established by Xerill within the Labyrinth. Lord Michael has become of extreme importance, beyond his initial critical value, assuming he has survived his trials thus far. The information he would have at this point regarding the Necron certainly would not exceed what the Dead Cabal have already known for eons. However, it would be invaluable in the hands of an Imperial Lord General in establishing stronger defenses in those fringe worlds resting on the edges of the Outer Reach, as well as acting as a first responder in the event of another Tomb World re-awakening on an Imperial planet.
It can be assumed also that Lord Michael is not the only target of importance trapped within the Labyrinth. However, Lord Michael's survival and safe return is your primary objective regardless of whatever other individuals you encounter, save the Emperor himself. Treat all other targets of interest and potential extraction as secondary. Remember, though, that having to care for a large band of followers is much more difficult than the safety and security of one Lord Michael.
Also, you will each be receiving a purity seal from Erioch's Chaplain before leaving for the Dead Station. The donning of a purity seal is a great honour, one that should not be taken lightly. See to it that you stand as a valiant exemplar of that which the Emperor sees fit to bless you with.

Primary:

  • Find and extract Lord Michael

Secondary:

  • Extract any additional targets of importance, assuming they are found alive, or at least still able to have information extracted from him/her/it.

And so we are to enter into the mouth of madness itself.
Emperor have mercy upon Lord Michael, we shall ensure he arrives in one piece.
His sanity however..cannot be spoken for.

Character Rewards:

Galmech: Beep boop.

Vulgate: +50xp for the time and effort spent in the puzzle room, and another +30xp for being a major contributor to its solution.
+1 Renown for standing up to the Lord of Change, dueling the Thousand Son Sorcerer (identified as Kal Malignan (unless someone has major probs wit dat)) and for standing against the risen Daemon Prince, as well as
Spoiler:

+++++++++++++++++++
++TERMINATOR HONOURS++
+++++++++++++++++++

For long enduring and exemplary service, for the willing sacrifice of oneself for the team, and for overall mastery of the ways of the Librarius.

Leonitas: +50xp for the time and effort spent in the puzzle room
+1 Renown for the caretaking of those battle brothers who had fallen in the field, as well as
Spoiler:

+++++++++++++++++++++++
++BANNER OF THE PRIME HELIX++
+++++++++++++++++++++++

For not only the continuously successful recovery of gene-seed when necessary, but for the protection and guarding of those battle brothers under his care, even risking his survival for the sake of his team's.
This Honour takes the form of an embellished and ornate Prime Helix on a glorious back banner. It is stylized after the traditions of the Blood Angels, having been sent to the Deathwatch from his chapter for his reported deeds. It stands to allow all those of the Imperium to recognize Leonitas as an Apothecary of great merit in the field. This banner should be considered a relic, and Leonitas would do well to guard against losing the banner with his life.
The helixes borne on his power armour are also now embellished.

Volpin: +30xp for being a major contributor to the puzzle room's solution.

Ulric: May purchase the Forbidden Lore (Tzeentch) distinction for 200xp and +5 corruption. The knowledge this entails is mind altering...

Temujin: +50xp for the time and effort spent in the puzzle room.

Dyrus: +75xp for the effective use of Divination skills to guide the kill-team. May purchase Hatred (Drak'Nir) for 150xp.

PyWright: +50xp for the time and effort spent in the puzzle room.

(Zak will be getting all General Rewards applied to his own character after character creation for him is all completed.)

It is good to learn that that foul sorcerer has been annihilated. The memory of Iratus has been honoured.

I fear it may not be that simple, Brother Dyrus.
I watched before my eyes as my blow engulfed him in flame..his form was then altered and changed and he became Daemon-flesh.
I have a feeling we have not seen the last of this Kal Malignan

This is even better news, as we will get the chance to kill him again. Perhaps even maybe a third time if we are lucky. As many times as it takes for him to receive the message from the Angels of Death that he is not welcome in this galaxy.
